| The LASCANet is developing a research, extension, outreach and training program in Latin America on soil carbon sequestration to improve soil quality, increase agronomic productivity, decrease non-point source pollution, and reduce the rate of enrichment of atmospheric concentration of CO2. The LASCANet facilitates exchange of scientists and students, collates and disseminate scientific information, creates awareness about the importance of soil carbon sequestration to sustainable management of natural resources, liaises with land managers and policy makers, and establish cross-linkages among stakeholders in the Latin America region. The LASCANet is identifying ways to minimize carbon loss and maximize retaining carbon in land, reducing the effects of CO2 and other trace gases (CH4, N2O, NOx) on global climate change, and improving environment quality. |
